Benzocaine (CAS 94-09-7) is a classic local anesthetic presented as a white crystalline powder. It blocks pain signal transmission in nerve endings to quickly relieve itching and burning sensations on the skin and mucous membranes. It is widely used in over-the-counter (OTC) products including topical anesthetic creams, hemorrhoid ointments, oral ulcer lozenges, and after-sun repair sprays, with a typical concentration range of 5% to 20%.
